It’s the first day of the Florida State Fair, and there’s a lot going on at Cracker Country!
Today is the grand opening of our new exhibit, Working Another's Land: African American Sharecroppers in Rural Florida. The exhibit allows visitors a glimpse into the lives of African-American sharecroppers in late 19th century Florida.
We have three musical performances today: the Lee County Fiddles will be performing in the church at 1PM; at 2PM, the Sandy Strings Band will performing traditional and old-time American songs at the Train Depot; and the Pleasant Family Old Time String Band will be performing throughout the day on the Center Stage.
We have several new trade demonstrations this year. Today you can spot the Cracker House Artist Guild painting landscapes throughout Cracker Country!
Other activities today: Antique Tool Demonstration, Bee Keeping and Honey, Blacksmithing, Building a Log Corn Crib, Chair Caning, Corn Grinding, Corn Husk Dolls, Decoy Carving, Flax Processing, Felting, Heirloom Roses and Herbs, Lye Soap Making & Appalachian-Style Pottery, Newspaper Printing, Palm Frond Weaving, Pine Needle Basket Making, Open Fire Cooking, Quilting, Spinning and Weaving, Whip Making, Wooden Bowls and Spoons, Woodworking/Birdhouses
And remember that after 3pm today, Fair armbands are only $20!
